![]() Name: Sentinel True Name: Wade Van Der Knapp Gender: Male Age: 23 Birthday: March 3, 1997 Greatest Ambition: To keep his sister safe Physical Description: Sentinel isn't too tall for a guy, but he's tall enough. 6'3" exactly. His build is sturdy with the lean sort of muscle that comes from continuous exercise over a long period of time. As much as he looks like a guy who can throw a good punch, he also looks like a nice guy. He's definitely good looking with the stronger sort of face framed with slightly longer brown hair. His eyes are blue that sometimes darkens or lightens in shade. He dresses rather normally, in t-shirts and jeans. Less elegant than his sister, but elegance and a clean-cut look isn't what he's aiming for. Distinguishing Marks: A scar on his side that he got while the Jackals were hiding out in the woods Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Single or taken: Single Best friend: His sister Jinx Personality: There's no doubting that Sentinel is an extremely caring and protective individual. He's been that way for his entire life and it isn't something that's likely to change anytime soon. This part of him is most often exhibited when he's around his sister. He knows the nature of her condition (at least, the best that he can) and so it drives him to care for her, protect her and never leave her side as long as he's able. It's his responsibility as her brother, after all. It's not only with Jinx that he's like this, however. Sentinel's prone to being personable and friendly around any person that he meets unless that person gives him a reason to act differently. Should that happen, he'll treat them accordingly. Whether that's with distrust, anger or indifference. Like ever person, he's got fears. Although his main fears likely wouldn't exist at all if the events with his sister hadn't happened. Now, he fears both violence and death. He prefers not to hurt people if he can help it, but there have been times when physically fighting Jinx is necessary. He'll also resort to using his fists if someone ever threatens her or anyone else that he cares about. Other than that, Sentinel's less inclined to resort to violence unless it has to be done. So why is he in the Jackals? It's in his and his sister's best interest. He'll be violent if he's ordered to, which he is at times. The fear of death stems from Jinx murdering their father so many years ago. Sometimes he'll get flashes of his father's dead body riddled with stab wounds and it scares him very badly. For this reason, he's got a very good sense of self preservation and knows how to get himself out of an otherwise fatal situation. You have to know such things if you have a sister who can easily murder you with a ballpoint pen. Sentinel is loyal. He wasn't made to be a leader, really, but he's good at following orders and he won't stray unless you give him good reason to. That's why being in the Jackals works for him. He'll do whatever Jax tells him to do and will remain loyal to him unless it isn't in his best interest to do so. Personal History: [Some aspects were taken from Wade was born two years before his younger sister, Jennifer, on a lovely March 3rd. He was the son of Mark and Julia Van Der Knapp. By birthright, he and his sister already were on another plane of existence from most other kids their age. There was the house in the country and the one in the city, as well as the European Manor and the Brazilian Bungalow. Most might have thought this also entitled them to a solitary life with all the material things they wanted, but no actual emotional ties. Unfortunately that was nowhere near the way they were raised, though it might have been better for the two children in the long run. Instead the Van Der Knapps were a tight knit family who travelled side by side, they ate at lest one meal a day as a whole family and they never spent less than twenty hours a week with each other doing various activates. As Mark and Julia had been risen in a hands off environment they promised each other that their children would never feel alone is this lifetime. Unfortunately this very intimate relationship within their small family lead to normality in actions that might otherwise have been labelled suspicious. Mark always had liked to read to the children before they went to bed and his daughter had always been the one more delighted by stories, but as Jennifer got older he started spending longer and longer reading with her. That might have been considered cute, but it was the fact that Jennifer tried to stay up as long as she could before their father left her room and the light was turned off. Julia brushed this off though, as her husband told her that their daughter just wanted to be an adult. Wade knew otherwise. His had a room directly next to his sister's. As he got older, Mark came in to read to him less and less and would read to Jennifer all the more. He wasn't jealous of this, as he'd simply read to himself. As he and his sister got older, though, Wade wouldn't be able to concentrate to read. He'd hear strange noises coming from the room next to his own. As time went by, he was more than able to put two and two together. The sound of his sister whimpering, the sound of his father's muffled grunts...and the sound of the headboard of his sister's bed hitting the wall in a dull thud in a steady rhythm. More and more nights passed that way and Wade would curl up with his hands over his ears, trying to block out the sound of his dear, sweet little sister being raped. He was twelve and Jennifer was ten when he confronted his father about it. That had earned him a backhanded slap across the face and multiple threats. If he ever breathed a word about it, his father promised that there would be awful consequences. So Wade kept silent and never told the secret to anyone. Not his mother, not his teachers...no one. When he saw the sad look on his sister's face every day, it killed him on the inside. Even so, he kept to his normal behavior. Although one could easily see that his smiles never reached his eyes. When he was thirteen, things took a definite turn for the worst. Wade was in bed like any other night, prepared to continue trying to block out the sounds of his father violating his sister. But this time, things were different. He heard awful noises through the wall, noises that equated to pain and suffering. Worried, Wade got out of bed as quickly as he could and burst into Jennifer's room. What he saw there was enough to make him retch. Once he could find his voice, he yelled for his mother, calling for help. His back met the wall near the door and he immediately crumpled to the floor, nearly choking on sobs. Over and over again he repeated, "It's all my fault..." His mother came in then to see the same sight he'd seen not minutes before. Both Jennifer and Mark were naked. She was sitting in a pool of their father's blood while his body was covered in innumerable stab wounds. Wade heard his sister's voice, repeating the poem "Where the Sidewalk Ends" again and again. That was the day Julia Van Der Knapp found out that the love of her life and the father of their children as well as the owner of the largest pharmaceutical company in North America had been raping their own daughter. In her first statement to police, Julia sat there for forty minutes starring at the walls with a brigade of questions being asked, until she finally said, "How do you make this okay?" Jennifer’s own statement was said with a smile and all she said was, "It’s done now, can I go home?" Unfortunately Jennifer would never get to return home. Instead she found herself in a small hospital where she was taken care of, clinically speaking. They hoped that the trauma of six or more years would be erased or at least understood for what it was. Wade didn't like to think of his sister locked up behind hospital walls. But what other option was there? She was a threat because of her fragile state. Even still...he wanted so badly to be able to see her like normal. To be able to give her hugs or to read books with her like before. But things weren't the same now. They wouldn't ever be the same. After the deaths of several of the personnel in his sister's facility, Wade was becoming more and more sure that clinical approaches weren't the way to helping his sister. He thought he could help her...fix her. He was more than sure that Jennifer needed someone familiar to be around her. But they wouldn't let him get near. Eventually she was put away into another, even smaller facility and Wade couldn't really concentrate on what 'normal' was supposed to be for him. Years later the virus came and seeped across the world and the Van Der Knapps were not spared just because they had already been through so much. On her deathbed Julia Van Der Knapp ordered that the institution that held her daughter be permanently locked so her precious daughter could finally have peace. Wade couldn’t abide by this, however, and so late one night he took his mother’s set of keys and went and took Jennifer. It wasn’t hard for him to do because no one expected that someone would want one of the lost souls with the "white building's" walls. He took his sister away from that awful place, planning to take her to the farthest place he could think of in all of the excitement. But there were people coming after them. They were on a flight from New York to Vancouver when the world stopped and all the planes in North America were brought down. There plane fatefully landed in New Haven, Wyoming. Because the plan had been brought down in the U.S., the police had full capability of taking them in. With all the chaos in the airport, however, the two did manage to escape out into the city, joining up with the first young man they saw running. Maxwell Holister. The three of them together waited out in a motel, having the time to learn about each other in their entirety. In that time, Maxwell also made his plans to take over the city with the help of a group of rogue soldiers. Wade could see that this man held the cards. He was smart. So he and Jennifer would stick with him and this new vision for the future that he had. Wade and Jennifer renamed themselves, becoming Sentinel and Jinx. Maxwell, now Jax, took over New Haven and ruled the city in a dictatorship until the year 2020. During that year there was an uprising against Jax and the Jackals that took the city down. Sentinel and his sister followed in the retreat from New Haven, accompanying Jax to Sundance as he took over the turf of a tribe called the Mountain Lions. Now, they live in the Lodge with the other Jackals and Sentinel is as protective as ever over his sister.
